Aluminum plates are classified according to their alloy composition:
High-purity aluminum sheet (rolled from high-purity aluminum with a content of 99.9% or higher);
Pure aluminum plate (composed primarily of pure aluminum rolled products);
Aluminum alloy plates (composed of aluminum and auxiliary alloys, typically including series such as aluminum-copper, aluminum-manganese, aluminum-silicon, and aluminum-magnesium);
Composite aluminum plates or brazed plates (special-purpose aluminum plate materials obtained through the combination of multiple materials);
Aluminum-clad aluminum sheet (aluminum sheet with a thin aluminum cladding on the exterior for special applications).
When categorized by series, it is further divided into
Category 1: Series 1 Industrial Pure Aluminum—represented by 1050, 1060, and 1100, currently the most commonly used series in conventional industry.
Category 2: 2-series aluminum-copper alloys—represented by 2A16 (LY16) and 2A06 (LY6), which are classified as aviation-grade aluminum materials.
Category 3: 3000-series Aluminum-Manganese Alloys—primarily represented by 3003, 3004, and 3A21—this series boasts excellent rust-resistant properties and is commonly used in humid environments such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and vehicle underbodies.
Category 4: 4-series aluminum-silicon alloys—represented by 4A01, these materials are used in construction, mechanical components, forging applications, and welding. They feature a low melting point and excellent corrosion resistance.
Category 5: 5000 Series Aluminum-Magnesium Alloys—represented by the 5052, 5005, 5083, and 5A05 series. These alloys feature low density, high tensile strength, and excellent elongation properties. They are widely used in aerospace applications, such as aircraft fuel tanks.
Category 6: 6000 Series Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon Alloys—Represented by 6061, these alloys offer excellent workability and superior joint characteristics, are easy to coat, and exhibit good machinability. They can be used in low-pressure weapon systems as well as aircraft fittings.
Category 7: 7-series Aluminum-Zinc-Magnesium-Copper Alloys—represented by 7075, also belonging to the aerospace series and commonly used in aircraft manufacturing.
Category 8: Other Alloys in the 8 Series—The most commonly used is 8011 aluminum sheet, which belongs to a different series and is primarily applied as aluminum foil.
