According to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Russian exports of primary aluminum and aluminum alloys to the United States rebounded in February 2020 after declining month-over-month over the previous two months. The USGS report indicates that Russia's exports to the U.S. totaled 17,700 metric tons in February, compared to 13,100 metric tons in December 2019 and 9,260 metric tons in January 2020. This marks a significant month-over-month increase of 91.14% for February, following a 29.31% decline in January. Notably, exports had stood at 15,500 metric tons in November, reflecting a subsequent 15.48% drop in December.
Compared to the same period last year, Russia's exports of primary aluminum and alloys to the United States increased by 73.52% in February, driven by the country's export volume of 10,200 tons during the same period last year. In the first two months of 2020, total exports amounted to 25,600 tons, representing a 10.48% decline from the previous two months' figure of 28,600 tons. Meanwhile, in the first two months of 2019, Russia's exports reached 31,100 tons, marking a 21.48% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
In January and February 2020, the total imports of primary aluminum and aluminum alloys into the United States amounted to 494,000 tons, representing a decrease of 15.26% compared to the 583,000 tons recorded during the same period last year.
